Horror Film Rough Cut Review

During this week, me and my partner was able to edit more of Horror film and start adding some opening titles. To get some advise and constructive criticism, we showed our whole class a rough cut of our Horror film tittle and added some feedback in what we did well and what we can improve.

Firstly, what we had done well was the effect of the sound effects in various scenes which had complemented to the dark mood of the film. For example, the constant Foley sounds of ghostly whispers throughout the film added a very uneasy and dark mood to the film in which captivated audiences to what was happening in the scenes. This contributed to the scare factor of the film which was what me and my partner wanted to achieve.

However, some effects did not work or compliment the scenes such as classical roman catholic church music. It was not continuous  and started unexpectly and it had jumped to quick into the scene which made the transition into the scene not smooth. Also, me and my partner had to cut a lot of scenes and materaial in our editing which took a toll on the smoothness of our scene transitions as it made it again too jumpy.

Morever, another constructive critism we had heard was the lighting of our camera. Due to the fact that we had shot all scenes at night, there were various scenes that were too dark. What we will do to improve the quality of the lighting is to change the contrast of the lighting in editing so that the scenes will be able to be seen clearly.
Overall, all strenghts and weaknesses we had recieved from our review will be taken into consideration and used to improve the quality of our work.
